Pikiel is a very good coach who has also been helped by a new state of the art facilty which sure doesn't hurt when recruiting

We MUST have a meaningful "Athletics" componet in a capital campaign in order to help Coach Anderson recruit.

JSJ - with Fr. Shanley coming in Feb. 1, is it realistic to think a capital campaign as needed inclusive of athletics, could be launched by start of fall semester or sooner?

Perhaps there is a faint light at the end of the tunnel. The new president. If he gets as disgusted as us posters maybe he can allocate some funds to improve facilities by getting some contributions from boosters. He can't improve our past ten years of futility which hurts recruiting but if improving facilities can help in that area maybe spending some money can be looked on as an investment .
Will next season be the low water mark in SJU season ticket sales?

Realize this is easier said than done but it's,  for the most part, the same people writing checks year after year.

We need to greatly broaden the base. You can't keep going to the same well, year after year after year.

Apparently Fr. Shanley was surprised that our development department was nowhere near the size of the one at Providence.

As we all know, it takes $$$ to make $$$

If you want great facilities this is the type of commitment you need:

Finneran Pavilion is a $65 million, fully donor funded renovation, which was led by 20 leadership gifts of $1 million or more and 130 major gifts of $100,000 or more. The lead gift was presented by William "Bill" Finneran, a 1963 Villanova School of Business graduate with a degree in Economics.

20 gifts of $1 million or more

130 gifts 0f $100K or more

Plus Mr. Finneran's $25 million contribution.

Here's a look at PC's facility:

What is the largest capacity gym we could build on campus?

What if we give up the thought of a new on campus BB facility and instead play our home games at MSG, Barclays, and Belmont?

My guess is most of the money made is on campus games in our current state unless we are maxing out games attendance wise at msg. A new on campus facility I can't see happening. New York Construction costs and cost of materials already going higher in anticipation of potential stimul bill involving infrastructure. Your best bet would be for school to raise a ton of money like JSJ has mentioned for capital improvements and best case scenario do a complete remodel on the inside but that's going to involve major money. With all due respect to Coach C they should have sold naming rights a long time ago for the arena if the money would have been right. If it was just going to be a small amount bsck then and called the Sly Fox Arena then obviously no but if corporate dollars could have been brought in then you could have called it for example Carnesseca Court at the Pepsi Arena as just an example

I'll assume that for Fr Shanley, upgrading our facilities in an effort to improve our basketball program is  purely a business decision and not an emotional one (as it is for us). Besides, he'd have to be here for at least 20 years to get to the level of disgust that most of us fans are. Our basketball program is a huge revenue generator for the school. As SJS said, you need to spend money to make money.  I expect, from his years at PC, that Fr. Shanley realizes this and will take the necessary steps to upgrade our facilities. Raising ticket prices, yet again, is not the answer. We've been there before and it didnt work. Our fan base is sick of false promises,  and the average college basketball fan is not going to pay more to see an inferior product. Fund raising is the only solution it seems. A fundraising campaign specifically earmarked for "new athletic facitlities" would seem to me to be best options, but then I know nothing about this sort of thing.

The reality is that in the Age of Covid, the university has other pressing concerns.

I don't think basketball or state of the art facilities are among the most urgent.
