Would love to have him back, we'd be very "lucky."

Here's my hope--- he comes back, gets his degree in 3 years (easy enough at SJU) and is POY and leading scorer in the BE, second team AA, and mid first round selection in 2022.

On the other hand if he goes, I wish him all the luck in the world, a great kid from a legacy family and one class act.

Right. And I would not discount the value of an education to him and his family.

While there may be some disagreement about what is best for Julian's professional aspirations, there should be unanimous agreement that returning to the school and the team is great for the program and the fans. Losing your best player, who also happens to be a quiet leader, would likely have made this as close to a rebuilding year as a team can get. I hope I'm not celebrating too soon, but it's nice to see the possession arrow leaning our way.

Supposedly, it (education) is important based on what I heard.  That's not to say he wouldn't pass up on guaranteed money, but it says he'll likely wise decision.

I am on the other side of the education piece.  Not that it isn't important, but that if he leaves school he can never finish.  If he plans on playing basketball professionally, that will be for a finite amount of time.  If he is lucky he will play into his late 30's so you are looking at a 15-20 year career at max (usually).  After that he can go back to school and should be financially able to do so.

I don't disagree at all with you.  But maybe Julian has things he wants to accomplish before he moves forward as a professional.

My larger point is we should never substitute our own judgement for that of the actual player.  If he comes back and gets injured or whatever we don't pay that price he does.

Agreed.  The problem is what he thinks is best for him now might not look like the best option in hindsight a few years down the road.

I agree again.  All I can post is what I think I would do or what I would like to see my kid do under the circumstances.

I'd like to say I'd value the experience, the degree, etc... But if my kid is sure his career is going to be professional basketball player and if the experts tell him he's not going to improve his draft stock or even greatly increase his skills and earning potential overseas by returning I'm telling him to go pro too.  However, if my kid looks like someone that can make the jump with one more year that's going to provide ROI so I try and convince him to return as a financial decision.

I recall when Mo declared and I was sure he would be a borderline 1st round pick but a lottery pick if he returned.  Of course he was smarter than I was and got the lottery money by staying so even if we think we know, we usually don't know.
