Lol Hurley and Cooley over Anderson???? Cma’s record blows both of theirs away, especially Hurley’s.

Jay Wright at 8 is too low. I’d put McDermott about 10 spots higher. Hurley has done nothing to prove that ranking. I’d probably move LaVall and Steele up a little based on their limited success.

Understanding that various programs are in various stages of development, and based purely on the LMF Coaching Standards, these overall rankings (in five tiers):

1. GQ Jay

... gap ....

2. Father of McBuckets
3. Son of Willard
4. Iron Mike
5. Screamin' Dan
6. Easy Ed

... gap ...

7. Baby Dookie

... gap ...

8. Let's Play Lavall
9. Patrick
10. Man of Steele

... gap ...

11. Leitao (only because I can't go lower than 11 on an 11-man list, he's an awful basketball coach).

Cma over Willard. Better winning%, more wins, many more tourneys and wins. Different stages of career but nonetheless.

I think we will both be thrilled if Anderson does with SJU what Willard has done with The Hall. His teams play smart, tough, and have zero quit in them. And he finds players. You gotta give the man credit - he's getting it done, in this conference, without big-school resources.

100% give him credit. Willard a good coach. Just not gonna put him ahead of cma as cma’s numbers win and with rebuilds in tough conferences. Willard’s success wAs also springboarded by some shady hiring and dealings which puts an asterisk there for me. That said, Anderson just has better numbers across the board.

Not saying Wright is at the top, but who are the seven ahead of him? K (given), Self (not in my book), Williams (okay), Cal (I go pro or con on this one), Izzo (always scares you at tournament time but its been 20 years since the Flintstones, when does the "yeah but he can't win the big one" rhetoric start), Pitino (sorry no, still a top notch coach but even before sexgate I felt he'd lost something on his fastball, I pick Wright over him at this point), Marshall (not in my book even if he last at Wichita State), Pearl (NO!!!).

Both things can be right.

I think objectively CMA's coaching resume is better than Willard's.

I think we'll be happy if CMA has results over the next 5 years that Willard has had over the last 5 years.

I think we won't if CMA's tenure is like Willard's first 5 at the Hall, where he was a hair-close to being fired.

I think Hall fans will be happy if Willard ever has the type of success in the NCAA that CMA has had in his career. One W in 10 years for Willard.

I'm no fan of Willard, as I think he's a snake. But he has no doubt done a very good job at the Hall over the last 5 years. And he has shown he can sustain them being a solid program even after the Tiny/Antigua kids graduated. Willard does a good job at player development, at finding kids who buy into the program and were underrecruited or underrated, and at maintaining continuity. He convinces the Delgado's and Powell's to stay 4 years, which is no easy feat these days. He convinces the Rhoden's and Mamu's to wait their turn to be the primary options. He convinces the McKnight's to go from a scoring 2 guard at Sacred Heart to a ball-distributing, defensive hawk at the PG slot. All of that are elements of a good coach, and so Willard deserves the props he gets for that.
