The only thing I care about is that CMA returns us to being a consistently winning program. How he goes about doing it is up to him. He has a large enough body of work, and has shown enough in his short time here, to receive the benefit of the doubt IMO. Because of the types of kids he recruits, it may take a bit longer then any of us would like. But I think it will be worth the wait once we get there.

THIS!

I was a little skeptical last year when we loaded up on the last minute recruits, out of necessity. But, I was very happily surprised by the quality we saw out of these guys once they played. So, that made me feel that this PROFESSIONAL coaching staff knows what it is doing and knows talent that fits its bill when it sees it. No, we won't get every guy, and yeah will probably struggle to land that elusive "big" but I am confident that in the long run, we will be much more consistently good and competitive than we've been for 20+ years.

Norm's 2005 class: :
Anthony Mason Jr. (4 Star)
Ricky Torres (4 Star)
Aaron Spears (2 Star)
Tomas Jasiulonas (2 Star)

Lavin's 2011 Class:
Dom Pointer (4 Star)
Mo Harkless (4 star)
Amir Garrett (4 Star)
D'Angelo Harrison (4 Star)
Phil Greene (3 Star)

Mullin 2016 Class:
Shamorie Ponds (4 Star)
Richard Fraudenberg (4 Star)
Bashir Ahmed (4 Star)

The fact that Ricky Torres & Fraudenberg were rated 4 stars (if true, I didn't look it up) just reinforces the position of many here that rankings are often overrated.
As Jack Williams posted CMA will be judged on results both from a recruiting standpoint and overall. He was able to land Champ, Rutherford and Dunn late his first year all of whom exceeded expectations, especially Champ & Nick. As far as results overall, I think he slightly overachieved in his first year, especially losing one of our better players for much of the season.
I like the 2020 recruiting class. Posh is rated a 4 star by ESPN and Cole is definitely a 4 star talent with JUCO accomplishments as good or better than Ahmed (listed as a 4 star above). But as others have said we will be better able to judge this recruiting class after we see them play Big East games (assuming there are any to play). As far as 2021 class, I do expect we will wind up with at least one 4 star level talent, but we'll have a better idea on this class in April.
I am very comfortable with CMAs tendency to look for players who (i) fit his system, (ii) are high character kids and (iii) want to play a true team concept. That may mean we are less attractive to one and done types and that is fine with me. We'll get our share of 4 stars and more importantly kids that leave it all out there imho.

Why is every recruit for us a tough get?

Hi Moose!

Because we may not be up to par with schools chasing him longer. Clear enough?

I'm still a bit hazy, to be honest. If that's the case, why don't we just focus on recruits with whom we are "up to par" and have chased for a competitive time period?

How's that going to work? CMA has been here 15 months. He's going to be years behind recruiting every player in the next 3 classes.

Even if he focused entirely on those he was recruiting to Arkansas, how many of them are going to be interested in coming to NY? Seems like you are suggesting we focus on an extremely small pool of players. I'm not sure that's going to work out so well.

Why recruit actual good players when CMA can coach up 2 stars and JUCOs? Waste of time.

Disappointing to hear that we may be falling behind here. PharmaD- why so negative all the time? Let me see if I got this right:

2019-20: Anderson is hired a couple of months before the season begins but he's able to add Dunn, Champagnie and Rutherford on short notice. Which of those guys do you wish we didn't have last season? On top of that we're pretty much unanimously thrilled with how he developed and got production from the sophomores, right?

2020-21: He gets one of the best PG's in the area, 2 Juco All Americans, A big grad transfer (wasn't everyone going crazy the last couple of seasons because Mullin and Matt A couldn't land that exact type of player?) and he takes a flyer on Wusu because he thinks he sees something. What is the issue with that class?

2021-22: The class is literally a work in progress. Of course we're upset because we missed on some of our bigger targets and we don't see any leans our way. But the guy has 3 spots to fill and he just picked up a really promising player who people don't appreciate because some recruiting site's matrix didn't give him 4 stars.

According to ESPN Drissa is the #6 player in NY and he's 1 rating point shy of being a 4-star recruit. He has a 79 rating and 4-star players are rated 80 or higher. So if Drissa was rated a fraction higher by a small group of talent evaluators (who none of us could probably name aside from Paul Biancardi) then we'd feel better because we could say, "All right well at least Coach started this class with a 4-star big." We're not trying to win a star collecting contest here.

Let's not hold our breath there

Thought he really wanted us to get involved? Did we wait too long or are bigger schools taking notice of him?

Thank you. Maybe people can wait for a class of his not to work out before we say he can’t recruit here. So far in my eyes he’s 1/1 and I’m betting posh and crew will make it 2/2.

Daylen Berry may be possible, unless he blows up as well. I think AUB was rumored to have interest in Berry. How much interest would be the key.
