He has been labeled a shooter by many announcers so it’s not just on the board.

I dont think he is labeled a shooter necessarily because he is white.

I assumed he was a shooter because he is not quick enough to guard 2s or 3s at this level. Hes not a pg and hes not a big. So what value could he bring outside of being a 3 point sniper?

Caraher burned up the court playing for Houston Baptist. He's still adjusting to the BE. I've seen indications in some of the earlier out of conference games that he can play at a higher level. I'm hopeful he will get better as the season progresses.

Julian Champagnie is playing extremely well for a freshman. He'll be even better next season.

David Caraher scored 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds and passed for five assists as Houston Baptist roared back from a 17-point first-half deficit to keep Northwestern State winless in Southland Conference play, 77-70 on Wednesday night.

Overrated?

In OOC games, no one should even be rated, under, over or otherwise.

Julian appears to have good court sense, and appears to be someone who can develop into a well rounded player. It's way too early, but I thought of a kid in the mold of a DJ Kennedy, who can do a little bit of everything in the boxscore. I wouldn't rate him, just that's who I thought of in terms of style.

And as I pointed out on this board when Jim Spanarkel labeled him as such that he was wrong and had not done his homework, and I know Jim personally. Announcers are not exactly replacements for doing your own research and thinking for yourself. You have watched Caraher this year, I assume, does he play like or strike you as a shooter in the context he has been labeled on this board? Cause he sure doesn’t to me.

You just answered your own question, you assumed. And have you watched him play this year or are you still just assuming? He has been a pretty decent role player both on defense and offense and proven to be a contributing rebounder as well.

Based on what I've seen watching all but one of our regular season games (did miss at least half of the UMass game), I'd consider Caraher, Chamagnie & Williams as 3 guys who can be or become decent three point shooters, although I wouldn't consider any of them classic spot up shooters by any means.

Julian is just one conference game into his career. He has the size and the tools to play at this level. The bonus is that we now have a coaching staff that will heavily invest in his development.

This kid is a keeper......period.

Not overrated. 10 & 6 and starting as a freshman is much more than I expected him to contribute. It's possible that we got overly-excited when we saw him on the court and are now disappointed to see he will have some off-games but when we take a step back, he's clearly been a wonderful surprise. He's going to be one of the core guys for whatever this team is moving forward after Figueroa & Heron are gone

Agree. And I would add that he is in process of adapting to the increased speed of the game and talent level.
