Even if Hall loses, they prove they can hang.

Powell has literally carried Seton Hall in this one.

All night, I'm thinking Seton Hall had to be playing a little possum WRT the severity of his injury, but he's just gone to the locker room with 37 seconds to go.

FWIW, after watching these Gavitt games, I’m not sure SJU is as undermanned as we think. We have Dunn back now and will get Steere in a handful more games. I haven’t been blown away by most Big East teams I’ve watched thus far and I think SJU plays at a pace that will give headaches to a lot of teams out there.

When we are at full strength, and continue to improve, I think we really could cause some trouble in our league.

Might want to wait until we've played some serious competition. Saturday will be very telling.

Wait wait wait
A week ago posters were clamoring for a BIG like him

I told folks he's a skilled player, but he's weak. My friend told me he was having trouble consistently finishing against smaller bigs in G'town's summer tour. He was having similar trouble against Mount St. Mary's smaller bigs last week.

Just continue to bang and be a menace to Yurtseven and he'll fold.

Going into this season, I thought Georgetown was going to finish in the top 3 in the Big East. They may still do that, but they have not impressed at all, so far.

Powell carried them until the last two mines. They were up 5 had the ball and he took a quick 30 foot three that got MSU going again. Senior needs to know time and score at that point.

Agreed, and then the last two drives they had as a team were terrible decisions. No ball movement and just trying to force their way through. They did so many things well last night, but MSU was more poised and patient in the last minute or so.

I have to say, after watching many of the early season games you see some good teams but I don’t see GREAT. No team has really jumped off the page as unbeatable. Should make for a very entertaining season. Of course it’s very early. I expect some of these teams to click at some point.

It seems the opening of the season and playing some big matchups has gotten earlier and earlier. Maybe that is a factor. Heck, years ago the season didn’t even start until much closer to Thanksgiving. Most teams will have played 4 or 5 games by this weekend.

MSU vs. SHU game

Pros:
-Showed Seton Hall could hang
-Good exposure...I'm sure it will be by far the most watched game all year from Big East aside from any tourney games
-Seton Hall got a taste of their own medicine from last year winning due to an awful call. Hall gets hacked twice in closing moments and refs swallowed their whistles. Kinda happy about that but also annoyed Michigan State gets that kinda call because they're Michigan State.
-A win would've made them plastered all over the national news and they'd say they own the NYC area. But they didn't.

Cons:
-Seton Hall never lives up to its billing just like PC...and us under Lavin and Mullin
-Could've been a nice win for the league and we sucked in the Gavitt Games overall a 2nd straight year

This is a hot take but I don't think Willard or Cooley will take their programs any further than they already have. I believe they've peaked and this is the best you'll get. If you can't win big games somewhat regularly with this much talent, depth, experience, size, etc. then maybe they're overrated coaches. Eventually you have to win these games and not throw your hands up and say, "oh well it was a tough matchup". Powell is gone after this season and he literally carries the team offensively. Window closing fast.

I get what you're saying. But don't forget Seton Hall did win this type of game last year. They beat #9 Kentucky.

Wow

Willard and Cooley have consistently out performed their expectations. What are you talking about?

The hall just played the #1 team in the country to a one possession game. With their best player hurt. Ranked top 15 in the country. If Willard doesn’t take them any further is that really a bad thing?

The only real surprise/positive takeaway from the Gavitt Games from a BE perspective was DePaul. They may be pretty good. Certainly better than the usual terrible they are.

The surprise from the Big Ten side is Penn St looks good to.

Bottom line is the BE does not really have any real Final Four contenders for the 2nd straight year. At least now.
