QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2019) – The St. John’s athletics department mourns the loss of former men’s basketball player Bob Larrañaga, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 78.

Larrañaga played for two seasons under legendary head coach Joe Lapchick and a young assistant by the name of Lou Carnesecca in 1959-60 and 1960-61. Larrañaga helped the Redmen go 37-13 over those two campaigns, as the team earned an NIT berth in 1960 before choosing to play in the 1961 NCAA Tournament.

Larrañage made 28 appearances over his two seasons in red and white.

Larrañaga, a Bronx native, is the older brother of Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Jim Larrañaga.
