Marion had the quickest first step for a forward of anyone I ever saw, Would have ball 30 feet out on the wing and absolutely just blow by anyone. Can see some similarities with Figgy though.

I like LJ’s game & love his enthusiasm. But Marion in his prime was a three or four time all-star and averaged 21 pts & 10+ rebs a game. He was in another league athletically imo brother.

That being said I think LJ could average close to that at SJU this year in college. The NBA is a whole nother level imo. Something Ponds and Simon are going to find out real quick. Got to know Simon a bit and he really is s great kid. Just wish he was playing for US this year instead of Europe or buried on someone’s bench. Best of luck Mr. Simon!

Let's let LJ be LJ instead of anointing him some kind of NBA up and comer.

Didn’t realize how bad Marion shot the 3 ball especially the 2nd half of his career. Woof

Anyway. His top moments. I still see it

LJ is his own player. He is not likely to shoot 42% from 3 this season in college let alone in the NBA. Klay Thompson and Shawn Marion are multi year all stars. I love his skill set but let’s see how he does next season.

When Moose and myself mentioned those players, they weren't comparisons but more of just seeing some similarities between the two. I don't think anybody here expects LJ to end up as a perennial all-star and future HOF'er

But the number and array of posts on this topic indicate, clearly, how appreciative we are of
LJ the college kid,
LJ the basketball player and
LJ being LJ, the young man -
such a fine representative of
“our” ( including non alums who are fans ) school.

But NBA?
There are 30 teams x 14 players for an NBA team. 420 total. Over 100 of those players are from around the world.
This year alone the numbers of spots to be drafted and players who declared was alarming.

I hope LJ is 1st team BE this year. I hope he leads us to an above 500 record and I would expect him to move on after that and wish him the best. I would just be really surprised if he ever plays in the NBA.

The things he does well are really valued by NBA teams to fill out rosters. Always in right spot, competes, plays defense, can’t be left open. Plus his length and athleticism. Think about a guy like Ariza, what skill does he have that LJ doesn’t? Maybe an inch or so shorter. His biggest weakness is creating his own shot and getting all the way to the basket but the NBA doesn’t really value that from their role players.

Ariza is more athletic IMO. And I don’t think in that area it’s close.
But you hit nail on head with his strengths and weaknesses

I will give you more athletic, especially in his prime, but I wouldn’t say it’s not close.

I also don’t think we should overlook LJs defense. He has great instincts and great hands that allow him to get steals without committing fouls. This should be a huge plus in CMAs new system
