Simon is insane or getting very bad advice. He is definitely not getting drafted and another year in college could only help him. Hope he gets a degree because he is going to need it.

“Another year in college could only help him.” Why? Did it help Shamorie or Mustapha? Sometimes you are what you are and another year or two is not going to change that. Simon is on target to get his degree in May. He is looking to earn money now, and if it’s overseas then so be it. If he stays another year his position is not going to be any different and that is one less year of earning power.

That’s a ridiculous statement. If you don’t think another year on the court with an ACTUAL coach could help him get drafted or a better contract your out of your mind. I could careless what job he gets with his degree. I’m strictly talking basketball wise and him leaving early is just plain stupid.

He's not leaving early. He turns 23 next month. He can get excellent coaching while earning money. He made a wise decision. I wish him well.

We all have our opinion or two cents should I say and I believe Simon would be far better suited to return and play for another season in an offence and defence which would highlight his skills , while working on a masters degree in his chosen field. The additional degree over the next 40 or more working years will far outway what he will get paid in Europe or wherever he plays next season, let alone the additional good will he would build up with SJU Alumni.
Whatever his decision I wish him the best.

Stop spelling in Canadian. :) defense

He’s a junior with a YEAR of eligibility left. Hence he did leave early. If he stays in college and is coached by an actual basketball coach who’s system fits him perfectly he is sure to raise his profile among NBA scouts. And if he really wants to play in Europe, which I highly doubt, he is sure to raise his price over there as well. What don’t u get?

A ridiculous statement really? Out of my mind, really? You need to calm down and stop letting your fandom get in the way. There are examples of kids staying and improving their draft status but there are probably just as many who haven’t and they had good coaches. Sometimes you are what you are and that is probably Simon. There is nothing wrong with that and another year in college no matter who the Coach is probably isn’t going to change that. Stats might get better but that doesn’t mean draft status will change.

He is a Senior with Junior eligibility who is graduating and is done with school. Your opinion is it will improve his status playing in a system that fits him will raise his profile if he stays. The pros can just as easily look at him and say he benefited from and is a product that of that system and feel that will not help him in the NBA.

For our benefit I wish he would stay but if he were, I don’t see that changing his draft status one iota.

Ponds last year was different and I thought returning was a wise decision. But things didn’t go as well as planned or it could of. We shall see if it hurt him, helped him or if it didn’t matter.

I really wish these guys the best. Hopefully they get to fulfill their dreams and make some good money doing it.

However, as biased as I am I don't see either one as having great value at the NBA level. Shamorie is not strong enough and I don’t see a position for him at the next level. Probably some G league and then off to Europe where he will make a nice living. Simon? Good kid but...I just don’t see it. Again maybe outside US.

Hope I am wrong but talent evaluation is not about feelings but honest assessment. Good luck guys.

I don't know how close he was to graduating, but based on Shamorie's Instagram it appears he left the school after the season ended to prepare for the draft.

The norm most often it seems.

Simon and the previous staff probably had conflicting opinions on his true position. Unless he and new staff are on same page, why would he even dream of coming back?

And even if that's the case, unless he feels new staff can get him to the NBA, why waste a year of making money in Europe?

Usually they do it to go work out with trainers and coaches hired by their Agent to better prepare for combines and team workouts. I don't know if Shamorie is doing that and if he is, how serious he is about it.

I was a huge Simon fan and agree his game seems extremely well suited to Coach Anderson's style of play. However, he is almost 23 and before making his decision I'm sure he talked to many people close to him, including his family and got input from folks a lot closer to the professional game (overseas game as well as NBA) than most of us and made the decision that he feels is best for him.
I wish him nothing but success and am thankful for the two years he played for SJU where his effort was never less than 100%. He was instrumental in some of team's biggest wins last year.
