I'm sure the year hasn't worked out like Shamorie hoped to date but that doesn't mean he shouldn't leave to take his best shot at the NBA. On the positive side, the NBA is full of second round picks who make a team. Granted the Knicks are not the best example in that the talent level is so low, but they have both this year and last year's 2nd round picks (Mitch Robinson & Damyean Dotson) playing prominent roles plus the undrafted Alonzo Trier who has solidified his position in the teams' future. Trier by going undrafted was able to find the team he felt gave him the best chance to stick. Nothing saying Shamorie won't find a team that likes what he brings to the table and not sure his chances will be any better a year from now. Just my opinion.

Stating the obvious, but it seems there isn't any chance he'll return. Obviously would love to have him back, but I'm not even considering that as a possibility.

Took a quick look at his stat line for this year vs last year, and to be honest it's tough to say which is better. Maybe this year is a little better overall across the board, but not the improvement most of us (and maybe Shamorie) hoped for. Not sure if he's been playing hurt, or just overachieved last year against Duke/Nova/Marquette. Maybe a bit of both.

Anyways, I was really hoping to see him get drafted first round but that looks doubtful at this point. I hope he can at least get into the second round and then stay on an NBA roster. Shamorie I'm sure has a good idea of what to expect and we'll respect his decision. He has given a LOT to our program and needs to do what is in his best interests. I'll be rooting for him regardless of where he ends up.

I'd be curious to hear what others think, but to me the second half of the season has been very strange watching Ponds play. He's been so passive on offense to the point he seems disinterested at times. I know he usually gets his numbers, but it just seems like that killer instinct and urgency are gone.

I've also been really bothered by his poor attitude on the court, resulting in multiple technical fouls.

It's just been really frustrating to see play out.

I am a huge fan of Shamorie's. It is very difficult to make it from the PSAL to the NBA for a number of reasons. Shamorie has had a tremendous college career. I can't explain what has been going on with his performance lately but I hope it doesn't impact his NBA chances. I also would like to see him graduate whether that is now or some time in the future. Hoping for a big game from him tomorrow.

It's also important to take a step back and realize how much we will miss this kid. Despite our lofty expectations, his this year Big East rankings:

#3 in scoring, #2 in assists, #1 in steals, #1 in assist/TO ratio, #6 in minutes played.

He's one of the best we will ever have.

Without him we don't win 4 games in conference.

I hope he realizes that there is no shame in going to school and playing for 4 years. The Pros will still be there.

But that's just wishful thinking on the part or selfish fans. How does it benefit him? If he's already graduating in 3 years and improved as much as his game will allow, he has no reason to not go pro next year.

Precisely. Don't substitute your interest as a fan for the interest of the player. If he gets hurt next year do you lose your job? He owes us nothing.

Love Ponds, but his game is not NBA ready. He still has room to improve and can continue to grow into his body.
