Maybe if we drove to the basket more, we might have gone to the foul line more often.

Yup. 35 three point attempts usually does that

Agree w Zach B
St. John's takeayways:
1. Needed to be 2-2 though tough 4-gm stretch and got that
2. Mullin needs to go deeper into bench. Don't get no Greg Williams at all. Team was clearly gassed late
3. Ball stopped moving like, like against Seton Hall. Fatigue part of that

Chris Mullin said Greg Williams was available tonight but referred to “in-game situations” when asked why he didn’t go deeper into bench. #sjubb

Also I want to know how the hell they didn’t give Heron two foul shots on that call he was clearly attempting to tip the ball in that should been two shots not an inbound.

Disappointing result, but at 2-2, we're fine, IMO. Right now, Nova's in first, and Seton Hall's in second, and we've already been to both teams' facilities. You just can't have a letup in either of these next two games. If we do, then we're in trouble. Not before that, though.

One problem I have with Mullin (who I think, has done a great job so far this year, all things considered): Villanova gets the ball back up 3, with about 40 seconds left, give or take. I don't like playing that possession out defensively. You're only giving yourself one shot, at most (and then, we don't get the rebound, which compounded the problem). I want as many chances as possible, so I'm going for an immediate steal, and if not, I foul (as long as it's someone with less then 4 personals doing the fouling).

Doing it my way probably won't work in the end, but doing it Mullin's way (and he's done it throughout his time here) almost never does.

Our starting 5 is the best in the league. Lack of depth and size makes us a talented, but incomplete team. We win a national championship if no one over 6'7 is allowed to play. We win a national championship if the game was 30 minutes long. With our lack of offensive rebounding, the key numbers for us are about 45% from the field and about 40% from 3. We fell short tonight, especially in the second half. We can play and beat anyone in the league. But it's harder when you get outrebounded every game, and have your starters worn down from too many minutes on the court, often giving up weight and size to the guy they are guarding.

When Ponds starts launching those 30 foot 3s in crunch time, and missing them, it means he's tired. And he hurts the team when he's tired. He really needed a blow tonight. I think the Heron foul trouble forced Mullin's hand.

We fouled when we were down late. I realize blaming refs is a popular theme but IMO, like Seton Hall, we lost, we beat ourselves.

Most didn't feel forced though. Feel like that was Nova's game plan. It was working until they stopped falling. But we have 5 starters who can all shoot it at a high clip. Nova took away the drives most of the gamez and we didn't get creative and find other ways to penetrate.

. . . and don't really penetrate very much.

How true. When we take a 3 point shot there is never anyone near the basket. One and done. Great if they are falling, not so much if not.

HaHa! Have to agree he gets so out of control beyond capabilities and seldom thinks situationally. Frustrating.

Now about your SJU “rout” prediction :)

I waited 4 years to have a little fun. I have no doubt that Simon will lose us whatever NCAA tournament game we are close in. He is completely tone deaf to his weaknesses and he is historically bad at the end of games. He freezes up every single time.

Of all my years around basketball I've never seen two kids like Dom and Simon who are so good in certain areas and so bad in others insisting on playing to their weaknesses.
