Having GW on the floor could be 3 or 4 guards on the floor and a sort of PG by committee similar to Mullin offense regardless whether or not you consider TJ or Wright as 2 or 3. GW brings good things that will be beneficial to the full court CMA system. He and TJ especially get down on both ends very quickly, but I still would not call him a PG. I suspect this will happen regardless as everyone on the team will get minutes trying to wear down opponents. I just hope the switching defense is a little more nuanced than what we saw this past season. That was painful with no bigs.

Ponds was crafty as heck, and a solid distributor. I agree by not grabbing another PG for the sake of, but Greg Williams ain't the one when it comes to allowing him to run the point. I'm wondering what a few of y'all saw, as I must've missed it.

I think it's mostly blind faith on this one.

Never thought enough credit was given to Ponds the passer. Overall his vision and instincts were up there, but in particular his ability to get the ball to the man in the corner was uncanny. If he wasn’t the greatest scorer we’ve had since mullin he’d probably be the best passer as well.

Williams as point guard I’m in between on. Don’t want him to be the primary #2 pg this season but do think as his career goes he can be a bit of a lead guard. For now I actually think LJ would be the better choice.

I thought part of the issue was the players weren't instinctive enough to convert Ponds passes. He definitely was fantastic passer. Not a pass first guy which sometimes I think people would see instead of his actual passes. Not a pure pg but man he had some awesome passes although some a little too flashy

Rutherford is a small investment. A 1 year rental. I would take him , unless we can get much better players instead. We really could use another pg especially one w exp.

This is not 'conspiracy' theory, honest, but it just might be why the Staff 'seems' to be both pursuing Glover and Johnson, short of being able to snare a 'game changer' like Van Zyl.
Messrs McGriff, Williams as the lead guards, facilitated by Heron, Figueroa, Wright, Glover, Caraher, Champagnie, et al, might be sufficient to run CMA's fast-paced offense.

Staff I was told were fairly impressed by Rutherford at his visit. Glover and Johnson have nothing to do with their evaluation of him as a placeholder. Not sure Van Zyl is the “game changer” you reference, having never seen him, but whatever.

Definitely no downside to Rutherford as long as he doesn't get trigger happy.

TJ following grad transfer Jerekius Davis

As Moose stated to me today, they seem to want to get a PG & may be intent on taking best available player regardless of position for last roster spot.

It is great that CMA wants to fill out the roster with grad transfers. He said he wants to play a lot of players and this makes everyone work harder in practice.

This approach makes perfect sense and we'll just have to wait and see who they land. Likely won't have to wait too much longer.

As long as they are one year "rentals", it's a no lose situation
Don't want to mortgage the future over a 4 year player at this point
There probably aren't many 4 year players available worth that commitment now

Thanks for the update, Paultz. I agree with the need for a seasoned PG and Rutherford fits that role fine at this point. Just wondering if other 'configurations' might also work. Certainly trust the Staff to find the answer.
