It seemed to be getting better under Goff with a revamped store and much more gear offered by UA, though they still never sold UA shirts with the same font as our jerseys with the fancy "St. John's" spelled out. Never understood why...if there is ever a sure best seller, it's shirts with that on it. Our players get really cool gear, but it never makes its way to fans. I get that they want some exclusivity for players, but there's a lot of exclusive shirts they get that fans can't buy. Just imagine if they had giveaways with the cool "NYC 718" black shirts with the numbers as subway signs. You'd have fans knocking the doors down. Does the admin just really not get what fans want or do they not care? I don't understand what happened between us and UA specifically...I was pretty happy overall with their product and thought they did the most to give us cool and different looks. Nike just kept giving us the same boring jerseys year after year with maybe 3 variations of shirts for fans. Any idea who we might look to get a deal with if it's not UA?

SJU has never cared about their merchandise. There are no experts and too many cooks in the kitchen who think they are experts.

You can really tell...just think about a guy like Darren Meenan the owner of The 7 Line for Mets fans. He noticed all the gear the Mets put out was boring and it turned out he had much better ideas for much more creative shirts that fans wanted. I believe he made $500k when he first got going and he might even be breaking $1 million now that the Mets are partners with him and the MLB allows him to license his gear so he can use logos and likenesses of players. I know we are not a pro franchise like the Mets with a much smaller fanbase, but maybe they could pay him as a consultant? He's from Queens and he has great ideas. It's frustrating when us fans seem to have way better ideas than the actual administration. We could even pay an independent expert to come up with cool designs and allow him to use our logos on it for a few different shirts.

The Starter jackets inside the bookstore are very nice. I'm glad I got one last season. I would pay anything to get the navy UA shirt with the fancy, red "St John's" across it.

He was lucky to hit gold as the Mets packed it in during the WS 2015 year. He filled a section in the bleachers in right field and the fans in that section made numerous road trips with pretty large groups where they made a lot of noise and attracted attention and a following. The guy was smart to capitalize on the interest that the movement created and he got free publicity from TV because they were the most animated and loud section of the stadium as well as the most ardent road warriors. People want to be part of a movement.

I'd be curious what their 2018 sales are now that the Mets are in the dumper.

When you think about it though, the product was a movement (The 7 line) that followed a winning team. Right place right time, and smart enough to capitalize on it.

On another note, I've bought a lot of SJU gear this past year, and people generally comment that it's pretty nice stuff - some dry fit golf shirts, a fleece jacked that is warm up until about 40-45 degrees, a very lightweight wrinkle free jacket, and a bunch of other stuff. It's hard to find nice stuff, but there is SOME nice stuff at the bookstore, and you can order online.

I'd guarantee right now that fancy font "St. John's" t-shirts, long sleeves, and sweatshirts would sell out rather quickly in the bookstore. I have one of those starter jackets they are very sharp. In fact, I ran into Louie himself at Acquista's before a game wearing that jacket and the first thing he said when he shook my hand was "hey, nice jacket!". He said he wished they had the old indian on it but that you can't do stuff like that in 2017 (at the time) haha.

It irritates me that a jerk like Mike Francesa can get a NYC 718 UA hoodie and the common fans beg for them to no avail. It just seems like that department is asleep at the wheel. When I got my Mullin bobblehead a few years ago I was all excited only to open it when I got home to find his arm was broken off and was not able to be glued back. I emailed the athletic department and they said they would send me a new one. About a week later I get a box with a Joe Tartamella bobblehead, not Mullin as requested. I'm sure everyone has a story like this and it gets tiring. They really need to treat it like a professional program.

How about $28 ??? It's not UA, or long sleeve sweatshirt... but it's a t-shirt, and comfortable, soft material. I bought one a few months ago. Nice website this guy has of vintage college logo gear.

MIke - I agree though on the sweatshirts with this logo would be great and sell well in school store or online. Never understood why that is not offered in either place. I picked up one of those Starter Jackets last winter. I had an original one from the mid/late 90's when I was working after school in athletic dept and with baseball team. I used to get a ton of free gear back then.

I actually own that t shirt haha. I just hate that it's very faded. The UA shirts are really nice, especially with the word basketball right under the School's name.

I've replaced my SJU cotton golf shirts with dry fits. They're great for travel, lightweight and wrinkle free. They also are color fast and after a dozen washings still look like new.
