Thanks JSJ. Was there for every game of that tournament. Brought back great memories. Would love for this program and it's fans to have a chance to renew that experience.

As was I. What great memories. Will never forget when we beat a very good BC team to win the BE championship. Garden went absolutely crazy.

Remember getting off the train and putting my radio on in the car only to hear BC coach Gary Williams whining and moaning about bad officiating costing his team. A gracious loser he was not. One thing about Louie when he lost he did so with class.

I was there, too. A great, great night ... topped off by Billy Goodwin sitting atop the basket (see Paultzman's avatar). One of my favorite memories.

I was there it was tremendous. Only thing better was beating Syracuse and those great matchups with the Orange and the Hoyas.

What a time. Great article.

Love the way the article ended:

The spirit of that St. John’s team was embodied by Hall of Fame coach Lou Carnesecca.

“I watched Coach so much as a youngster, I went to his basketball camp, so playing for him was the ultimate,” Goodwin said. “I think the best part of Louie was he loved and protected us, I think that was why winning the tournament at Madison Square Garden was so important to us all. It was a reflection of him.”

Added Stewart: “We all were an extension of his work ethic, generosity, ferocity, intelligence and humility. Don’t get it twisted, St. John’s does not become one of the top programs in the nation without the presence of coach Carnesecca. Coach’s legacy will live on through everyone he coached in their personal and professional lives.”
