Just get me to Friday.
Is there any other 9th place team with 3 top 5 wins in the country?

Not only are there no ninth place teams with three wins vs top five teams but there may not be any other team in the country. Have to beat Geo and Xav.

Nice OSR
And, of course, could have very easily had a 4th with Xavier!

Surprised to learn that we "need" a win here just to be "considered" for the NIT. There are lots of mid majors in this tournament. We would be one of the bigger names in the tournament. All the major analysts know our story this year...ugly Big East record but they know how good the conference is and how we turned it around late winning 2 games against top 4 teams. No one else in the NIT did. To have to win 3 top 4 games just to be considered? That's hard to believe. Are they really going to deny us because we are 1 measly game under .500 overall knowing our signature wins? We didn't just beat 2 top 25 teams, we beat 2 legitimate title contenders. Again, hope we win and pretty much guarantee getting in, but I think we 100% deserve an NIT bid even if it's a bad seed. It would definitely salvage part of the season to see our guys in the postseason.

I believe the writer is stating as much, since no team under .500 has made the NIT. We'd obviously be a unique case. He is by no means an expert.

For example, he has teams with worse RPI and SOS in his bracket, so I'd say we still have hope.

He knows about the Molloy game, right? Because I'm sure the committee does.

Apologize for posting this somewhere else, but have never heard an answer to this: if it's true that a win doesn't count against Molloy, then why would we ever schedule them? We would literally be in a no-win situation. You either lose and get embarrassed or you win and oops, doesn't count. I think I remember hearing we had someone else scheduled then they canceled late so we scrambled and got Molloy. If that's the case, I have a hard time believing a D1 low or mid major program wouldn't add us to their schedule instead.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they figured with Wilson and Lovett here, we'd be at 23 or so wins and sweating out a D-II game wouldn't be an issue.

I suppose if any sub-.500 team is ever going to make the NIT, it should be St. John's, given its historical role in the tournament. I still have serious doubts despite the Duke and Villanova wins, but looking forward to a heaping plate of crow if we make it.

What you have a hard time believing is immaterial. It is what it is. Team only had to improve by 3 games from last year to get above .500 this year. Couldn't do it (unless they win today AND tomorrow). Doesn't help that they were 3 games worse in conference.
