Recovered from the Boone extension yet ?
Do you want one of the big SS?
Verlander coming off injuries?
We know everyone wants to trade Gary.

Yes, on one of the big SS.

I think Seager is the best fit, because he is a lefty bat, and probably won't be able to play SS too long term, so he won't even be blocking the big SS prospect we have in the minors (he was in A ball, so he's a couple of years away at least).  Then you can move Seager somewhere else.

I'm big on the LH bat as well and Seager has some great advanced metrics on hitting high velo.

Agree on his move to 3B as well.

But his defensive metrics at SS are worse than Torres and Didi.  I cringe to think of how fans will react to a SS who is defensively worse than the last 2 who played the position.

If he hits well enough, very few will care.  Jeter started out with little range at SS, and got progressively worse over his career, but because he hit .300 every year, it was a net positive.

True but Jeter was born a Yankee.  Seager would be a highly paid FA and naturally the light shines brighter from our often times unrealistic fan base

Seager booted balls on a couple of key plays in the playoffs. I understand the need for a lefty bat, but there are holes in his defense.

Doubt it happens but what about Gio at SS and Seager at 3B immediately.  Gio keeps seat warm for Volpe/Peraza.

That's an OK short term solution (for a month or two) but Gio isn't a SS.  Put him in that position for a year or two and his offense will likely suffer.    Since its already declining, that isn't something I'd do.

I have two options:
Sign one of the top guys long term and use one of the kids as trade bait to fill another hole with the other being penciled in at 2b or 3b long term.

Or if you really believe Peraza and/or Volpe are going to be elite, franchise SS's at the MLB level then go sign Andrelton Simmons for two years.  He'll be cheap.  He's great defensively, and while he didn't have a good 2021, he is a career .265 hitter.

If I could have the Yankees make one deal this offseason and only one, I'd  trade Stanton to SD for Manny Machado.

The money is similar so it shouldn't be too difficult to balance it out.   Manny could play SS for a year or two before sliding to 3b.  Yankees get their roster flexibility back by clearing out that RF/DH logjam

SD gets a local, Latino superstar in RF who can also DH when the universal DH is approved.  They also avoid that building tension between Machado and Tatis jr.

No way SD would make that trade!

You hate Gio

Another question is where is the glove more valuable.  Gio has been lights out at the hot corner.

I have no problem with Simmons.  Gold glove defender.  Solid 260 hitter at Stadium in his career as well.

I'm not so big on Rizzo like some.  I think people are living off his past.  I'd trade for Olson but without giving up Volpe, Dominguez, Peraza, Gil or Pereira.  Tough ask maybe but Oakland are dumb idiots so maybe possible.  Or if they want to trade Frankie Montas too.  If I'm dropping $ this offseason its Robbie Ray or Freddie Freeman.  Weaken the upstart division team and get a top LHP.  Freeman very unlikely but I would go for broke for him over any of the SS.

Show your homework please...

If the money is equal, and Stanton wouldn't block the trade, why wouldn't SD be interested?
Local, Latino player will improve attendance.
Stanton is 2.5 years older.
Who is a better mentor for Tatis?  (That's not even close.)
They have 4 OF's on their current roster.  Stanton hit more HR's last year than all of them combined.

I'm not saying it happens, just that it makes sense for both sides.

IMO Machado is a more complete ballplayer. Furthermore, he is 3 years younger, much less injury prone and plays great defense. I just do not see SD accepting this trade even up.
