When was the last time the Yankees looked this bad, this far into the season?

I tried to watch Boone's post game. He is  cracking under pressure, no doubt. Watch his post game. He cannot take the constant negative questioning about this team. He had some under breath comments to Brian Hoch. He talks about fixes, but NOTHING is working. Time for a change. This team sucks.

Bucky Dent in 1990, replaced by Stump Merrill.  Interesting the 3 Yankees managers that preceded Boone all were let go/fired/not retained (choose your own phrase/word) when their contracts were expired.  Meaning they all managed the last year as lame ducks.

BTW-The Showalter/Torre thing in 95 has a twist that few people knew at the time.  So Buck managed 4 years helping rebuild the franchise.  His 4 year contract was up and they just lost that heartbreaker to the Mariners.  Most assumed Buck would be offered a contract and retained.  But George dragged his feet initially.  Then he offered Buck a contract but told him he had to fire Brian Butterfield his 3rd base coach.  Buck said no and so both sides parted ways.  Yankees said Buck quit, Buck said he was fired.  Didn't matter since he contract expired at the end of October so both sides could claim they were right.  Here is the kicker.  George hires Torre like a week later.  All the tabloids think it is a huge mistake.  George begins to have second thoughts. Evidently George wants to hire Buck back.  The rumor was he flew from Tampa to Pensacola to lure him back as Yankee Manager.  Buck has just interviewed and is offered and about to accept the job for the expansion Diamondbacks in Phoenix.  In fact he had just flown back from Arizona when George meets him.  George assures him that Torre will be fine.  Basically tells him he'll give Joe a job in the front office and honor his contract.  But that he wants Buck back.  Buck declines says it would not be fair.

Jack Curry then of the NY Times (now of YES) was ready to do a story in Buck and his new job.  He had heard this rumor about George trying to hire him back after Torre was hired.  When he sits down with Buck that is the first question he hits him with.  And the way Buck's face went ashen and he slumped in his chair told Curry that the story was true.  Buck refused to confirm saying it would be unfair to Torre.

game 65.
when your ace gets whipped, y'all know its going to be a bad week/month/season.
7 total bases for yanks. 7 runs for the bad guys.
at least twice, yanks were burned with an infielder in left field.
when will they ever learn, if ever, odor eaters base running.

I'd like to see the Yankee focus on getting a CF and preferably someone who hits LH.  I'd love Ketel Marte but he will cost a lot.  I'd also like to Benintendi.  A smaller name alternative would be Bryan Reynolds from the Pirates.  All would be good options in CF and adds to the lineup.

I know the bats have been dreadful.  So this take might not make sense and maybe its not 'right now' but moving into next year.  But Luke Voit I think has to go.  I like his moxie.  I know most Yankee fans like his unbuttoned jersey, no undershirt, muscles bursting out of his top.  But he's hurt wayyyy too much.  And 1B needs to be a flexible position.  Someplace you can put DJ, maybe Andujar, maybe Judge down the line.  If he can get you lefty OF bat, or a better option at C, or a pitcher of course I think you have to.  He did lead the AL in HR's last year so maybe there is some value still for a cost controlled bat.

The question is going to be how much do you mortgage on the farm or do you do a mini blow up again?  I don't see them blowing it up so when it comes to the farm I think besides the Dominguez you find 1 or 2 other untouchables and then you have at it.

game 66.
bravo gittens for breaking a 27 year drought with a getty.
monty's sop is yielding at least one ballantine per outing.
welcome back to britton. he really struggled but yielded zero runs.
loaisiga putting together a very nice year,
dj, kraken, and gardy making a push to go from a crappy season to a semi-crappy season.
yanks gave up 3 runs because of an infield fielding "error" and a pass ball.
bravo boone on his strategy, pinch ran wade who stole a base and scored a late inning run, as he was driven in by red thunder who entered as a pinch hitter.

A fortunate win given the horrible at bats throughout the game. Blew a big chance in the 1st inning. Chapman is instant drama. The start of the rundown is indicative of what baseball people say about the Yankees system: the attention to detail on fundamentals is atrocious. Who ever thought Sanchez could get hot at any point?
