While a good move and congrats to him, a huge loss for the baseball program at St. John's. Good luck Coach.

I assume at age 65 he just wanted to do something a little different. Not like he’s going very far as he’ll be in Brooklyn. Although, some of those bus rides to places like State College or Mahoning Valley aren’t the most fun. Good luck to him.

don't think this was the direct cause but I spoke to him after conference realignment happened but his opinion was that even though the change was good for the athletics in general particularly the basketball program, the changes in the bigeast (conference realignment) was not good for the sju baseball program.

SJU needs a home run hire here for sure.

JackofVirginia wrote: Great guy. Was introduced to him by Jack Kaiser. Told Ed I was the only undefeated baseball coach at St.John's. Of course it was for one game against Hofstra. Kaiser was sick so Louie asked me to take the undefeated freshmen team at Ebbets Field. Larry Bearnarth,Shremeta, Russo and Wolf were on the team. Phew, couldn't afford to lose.
Sorry to lose this coach.

Cool Story !!

Mike Cragg's very classy reaction to congratulate Ed is a wonderful sign of what a terrific manager Mike is. A great manager is truly happy when even a key employee leaves for a better opportunity.

Mike, is the real deal as an AD and as a person. We are in great hands.

It would be nice to see his next in command get a chance if that is feasible. The program has been really humming the last few years. I would expect Cragg to ask Blankmeyer for input. I don’t think there is anyone at St. John’s more qualified.

That would be this guy, Mike Hampton. No, it's not the same Mike Hampton who pitched on the Mets pennant winning team in 2000.
