Yankee fans tend to overvalue their prospects. Mets fans are more likely to poke holes in their prospects. Once Alonso has the inevitable slump you will hear that he might be better served at AAA or he was rushed or his defense needs work. No one can maintain his current pace and adjustments will be made. However, he has the NCAA and minor league numbers that prove he was a very good bat that may have been overlooked. He did lead all of the minor leagues in HR and RBI last year while hitting a solid .285. That ain’t nothing.

Usually buying in the free agent market. Think the Mets overestimate their roster and blame the conditioning coach and medical staff for the team's issues.

The season has been going well so far. Although we know 11-1 last year was fools gold. Definitely like the feel of the lineup. Hope Frazier doesn’t mess it up. Not as concerned about Lowrie as it’s going to be a while and we will likely have some injury or prolonged slump going on when he returns and we may need him. Still wish we could add to the pitching as it seems the ball is flying this year and we have almost nothing in the minors. Would love to add Keuchel or Kimberly as unlikely as that may be,

Easy Knight. I do think you misunderstood what I wrote. By saying overvalue I mean pump them up. That is not meant as a negative. Think not looking at the holes but looking for the good. Yankee fans I know love Miguel Andujar (they should) he’s a good young player. However, If they had signed Machado, well Andujar ain’t that. Now all things considered (money, upside) maybe it was a good move to avoid MM. Yet many claimed Andujar might be better than Machado. Yikes.
Now as for my point about the Mets (this is a Mets thread right?) Just watch when the adjustments come and Alonso hits the inevitable down portion of a looooooong season. Mets fans will immediately panic “he’s not that good”, “he’s overrated”. Just a difference in where the fan bases have been.
Could you imagine the Mets at 5-8? 13 games means zilch. Just think about how different fans have been conditioned. I haven’t yet heard panic (frustration maybe) yet in Yankee land. Mets fans would be “here we go again”. Season over. Now get back to the Yankee thread. Just kidding.

McNeil will be an all-star. He’s like the offensive deGrom...came out of nowhere.

Having both Dom Smith and Pete Alonso, only one of which can play doesn't maximize the Mets' potential to win. When is the best time to trade one of them?

If I were trading, I'd be looking for a single A or double AA catcher. I fear d'Arnaud and Ramos will decline to the point of unplayable and I'm not confident the System has a future major league catcher in it.

You have to check out our roster at AAA. Average age is almost 29. I think it's the one of the oldest in modern baseball. As for Catcher's we have a 17 year old that we signed in the International Draft for big money but that is years away and Ali Sanchez at Binghamton ( Strong Defensively). Our minor league system is very weak but in the win now mode we are in, I would expect Smith to get traded for pitching that can help us this year or not until the offseason, unless we fall out of the race.

Spot on post. I would add that the Venezuelan kid they signed is very highly thought of. Of course he is a long time off but he allegedly has a big bat. The one thing omitted was that JT Realmuto is a FA in two years. The exact same time that Ramos contract comes off. BVW loves JTR and IF big IF he is still available I suspect that interest will still be there. I would suspect (like you stated) that if Smith continues to increase his value and Alonso is healthy he could be moved for pitching. Smith looks good and he might finally be realizing his potential but Alonso is clearly blocking his path.

Yikes. I was at a sports bar with some friends last week when Matz pitched against the braves and I had convinced myself he had maybe turned a corner for us.

Rough one tonight
