Before he became the Gym Rat of Alumni Hall, Chris Mullin was at Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, mulling over his college options. Mullin committed to St. John’s and the rest is, well, history. History that we will cover each week with “Mullin Moments”.

In 1983, Chris Mullin swept all of the major BIG EAST awards as he was named Player of the Year, First Team all-conference and the Tournament MVP after leading St. John's to its first-ever BIG EAST Tourney Championship.

It’s 1985 and the Johnnies are the kings of New York. Chris Mullin was leading a stacked Redmen squad that included Walter Berry, Mark Jackson and Bill Wennington. By January 28, St. John’s was number one in the nation.

Aside from being named a consensus First Team All-American in 1985, Mullin was the recipient of the prestigious John R. Wooden Award. Coach Wooden, who led UCLA to ten NCAA Championships, retired in 1975 and the award was created two years later to immortalize the nation's top collegiate basketball player.

After 12 great years with the Golden State Warriors, Chris Mullin was traded to the Indiana Pacers before the ’97-’98 season. In ’99-2000, Indiana defeated the Bucks, Sixers and Knicks en route to a Finals matchup with the Lakers. Indiana took L.A. to six games, but Kobe and Shaq could not be stopped in their quest to begin a three-peat. But for Mullin and the Pacers, the moment was historical.

In late March 2015, the rumors were flying over who was going to take over at the helm of St. John’s basketball. On March 31st, St. John’s announced that Chris Mullin would return home to become the 20th head coach in program history. The next day, it became official as the school's all-time leading scorer was introduced to over 1,000 members of the media and university. 30 years after his historic playing career in Queens came to a close, Mullin took the floor on Utopia Parkway once again to address the electric crowd.

The St. John's men's basketball team kicked off the 2017-18 campaign in stellar fashion on Friday night, as the Red Storm downed New Orleans, 77-61, in front of 4,921 fans at Carnesecca Arena.

The St. John’s men’s basketball team used another balanced scoring attack to improve to 2-0 on the young season, as four players finished in double figures in an 80-55 win for the Red Storm at Carnesecca Arena.

Welcoming its first high-major opponent to Carnesecca Arena, the St. John's men's basketball team responded with its most dominant effort of the young season, downing Nebraska, 79-56, on Thursday night in The Gavitt Tipoff Games.

Trailing by as many as 10 midway through the second half, the Johnnies rattled off a 17-2 run in the closing minutes of the game to topple Oregon State and remain undefeated on the young season.
