Gotta say, not ecstatic over our win. Granted, New Orleans was a tourney team last year, but we just played sloppy. I know it's the first official game of the year, but I do not feel great over being out-rebounded by 15 rebounds (42-27). Of our 27 rebounds, 7 of them came from Shamorie...how is that possible? Before the AIC game, I looked up our stats from last year. I'm sure many of you know this, but as a team last year we had over 1,100 rebounds. Did you know that ~20% came from Marcus and Shamorie? That cannot happen. How can our guards (like in this game) lead our team in rebounds. I am, as I'm sure many of you are, nervous when we play legitimate teams.

As for our sloppy play, clearly our second half play was better than our first. It still bothers me that we had as many messy possessions as we did. I am afraid that Owens and Yakwe are afraid to go to the rim. In the first half (before the U-16 TO) we were playing an offense which only had truly connected once (the alley-oop to Simon). Tariq and Kassoum are big guys with bigger bounce in their step, they should have connected. Something seemed off. I know we have a long season ahead of us, but we need to work out the kinks ASAP.

I absolutely get that this is an over-reaction to the first game of the season, but these are entirely my thoughts. I'm interested to hear what you have to say.

Yakwe is like the cowardly lion character.

Needs to find himself & step up quickly. That's what offseason & exhibition was for.

Or he's just not much of a basketball player despite the athleticism and potential with time.

Frustrates me more than Ali B or Ahmed

I am not concerned about the offense at all. I believe It will come together.
However, as you stated, the rebounding is a big concern for me. There are many on this board with much more basketball knowledge then I; so I ask you guys: is it the style of offense that we are playing, with Clark and other bigs playing away from the basket or is it a lack of size or aggression?

I'm with you on your breakdown Billy. There were concerns, some I think will be us all year long. But as you said, it was the first game ( minus 2 exhibitions) and hopefully they improve as the season goes on.

On an unrelated note, it's great to have Billy on this forum. For those that don't know him, let me just say that he is one the most passionate and energetic student/fan that you'll find out there. If all of our student body supported our team like Billy, we'd be Kentucky & Duke rolled into one. Welcome aboard Billy.
