To the surprise of many 7 1 Thon Maker of Virginia, by way of Australia and Sudan, the number 1 player in the class of 2016, has decided to move to Canada and complete his high school at a new Canadian basketball academy in the suburbs of Toronto called Athletes Institute. Apparently a very wealthy man in the area was tired of the countries top talent leaving to go south of the border to prep schools , Andrew Wiggins , Tyler Ennis, Anthony Bennett to name a few of late. With him came his younger brother Matur who is a top recruit for the class of 2018. The team will benefit from great coaching and facilities and will travel to the States often in order to play top flight talent.
We will see how this academy plays out.

You're not helping your karma with this one.
We beat Syracuse again and it's almost October.

Maker staying in 2016 class.
Wonder if the staff will take a crack at him. Its worth a try to gauge interest.

The kid may not go to college. He will get an overseas offer comparable to Emmanuel Mudiay. I am sure he'll consider a million bucks while he waits the year to become NBA eligible.

As an international player I suppose that's possible but Mudiay only went to China because the NCAA was going to declare him ineligible. And the fact that many experts believe he could have shown he was the better option than Russell as top PG and moved up a spot or 2 in the draft in he went to SMU shows the value of playing a year in college. The difference in contract value between pick 5 and pick 3 is more than $1 million so the value of his China contract and his NBA contract losses are about the same. And when the salary cap blows up next year, as most say it wil, it will the differences in rookie salaries are likely to be much more. It'll be interesting to see who that affects things.
There have been nearly 3000 Gods so far but only yours actually exists. The others are silly made up nonsense. But not yours. Yours is real.

If we were to land Alkins and Maker, St John's will be renamed Kentucky North

I still think it is pipedream, but if we landed both, Shamorie Ponds' commitment might go down as one of the best moments in SJU basketball history. He seems to be working both since last July when they played in the UA event in Brooklyn.
