Doubt you will hear anything until late October or November is my sense.

Not doubting the accuracy of this assessment for a minute, but it is frankly mind boggling & inexcusable on the part of the NCAA, unless our beloved SJU or MH has failed to do their part in submitting required documentation. What is so complicated in an application like this that it should take 4-5 months to get a decision? We all know corruption is rampant and in the headlines in college basketball; you'd think the NCAA would want to take advantage of an opportunity to look like they are actually acting in the athlete/family's interest for once rather than adding to the family's stress. Just venting, but it is extremely frustrating.

Personally, I think part of the reason behind the delay is to dissuade others from seeking the waiver.

I’ll take the other side of that JohnnyFan. I think it’s Summer Vacation time and because it’s St. John’s and not Duke who would benefit—no need to hurry.
But, at the end of the day, the NCAA will hopefully make the appropriate decision based on the clear merits of the Heron Family’s case and pressure brought forth by the media and pundits.
Transfer rules are about to be liberalized in major ways—making an appropriate decision on a signature hardship case would seem to me to be perfect ‘timing’.

I wonder if the same NCAA Eligibilty Center that needs to clear all incoming freshman, would be the same team needing to clear a hardship waiver... If so, it could be first come, first serve.

If D'Lo is 6'2-6'3, Heron looks a legit 6'5. :)

UNC football transfer gets immediate eligibility. Yeah, yeah it's UNC... but still. Has to be a good sign, right?

Edit: Oops, Paultzman already posted this a couple days ago.

Just spoke to an Auburn assistant coach who is in Montreal for the weekend who only had the nicest things to say about Mustapha and the best of wishes for him going forward.

Well Adam, you came in 2nd to Paultz—that ain’t bad!
Seriously though, this is huge imo and I missed that the NCAA changed its transfer rules this past June, effective October 15 of this year, “to allow all Div 1 athletes to transfer out of their programs” by simply informing their schools of their desire to transfer. The affected schools must put the athletes names in a ‘national transfer database’ within two days of notification. Also, ‘tampering’ becomes a Level 2 violation. Major conferences can still implement transfer restrictions, such as not permitting transfers within the conference, and the ‘sit-out’ requirement remains generally in place.
The football player who transferred from Ohio State to UNC, cited ‘family and playing opportunities’ to return to his ‘home state’ and is immediately eligible.
This has got to be great news for the Heron family and St. John’s.

Yes, frankly I'm surprised there is not more talk about it here. This is really good news.

Now, for a fun topic since we can start dreaming:

It is pretty clear that Ponds will be the consensus pre-season Big East player of the year. If Heron is eligible, would be be the pre-season runner up? Or at least in the top 5?

Would be pretty incredible to have 2 of the best in the Big East (at least by pre-season measures). When was the last time that happened?
