CM & Staff have fancy flat screen TVs and high-powered 4G Smart Phones, right?
Joking. I’m joking. Truly.

Yeah... Richmond has a whole recruiting command center operating out of one of the wings of his west coast home.

So many monitors, he can't keep track.

Richmond is going to receive some interesting comments from fans at CA and MSG this year. Can't recall another assistant being this unpopular (or useless).

I don’t know if I would make the statement that the fans dislike Mitch. I would make the statement that the fans disliked his lack of recruiting. I don’t think he’s an xo guro, so let’s hope he’s good at player development. One of my compaints is his skills duplicate Chris’s. I would rather see a coach w complimentary skills. IE big man skills, xos, recruiting ,etc.

Ironic also. I think I recall others as well as me, favoring Mitch's promotion to AC. We had misty images of CM & Mitch--our 2 HOFers-- knocking on major recruits' doors.
To be fair--for whatever reasons--that didn't turnout well.

I don't think Mitch Richmond ever intended to become a full time coach at St. John's. His special advisor role suited him well as he makes his home in California and has never been mentioned as a recruiter except for posing with Mullin with a couple of kids. He would have still been in the role had not the Slice thing happened.
I know that Chris initially intended to relocate to New York and make it his family home. Most know that did not work out for family reasons and unfortunately has to split his time between California and New York. I understand that could change in 2019 should he have success with the team once his daughter graduates from high school. She is a soccer player like her mom was and some family members are hoping she continues playing on the east coast, maybe even at St. John's.
2018-19 will be critical for Chris in more ways than people know.

At St. John's nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Thanks ‘72. I didn’t know that and appreciate the input. Roughly hews to my gut that Chris will be energized by a very successful St. John’s men’s hoops season.
Be great if his daughter joined the ‘family’, playing soccer here.

I think it's because:

1) they are old compared to the recruits...I'll be honest I just turned 29 and I had no idea who Mitch Richmond was until we hired him. It's not like I didn't watch the NBA either as a Knicks fan...I wasn't a huge NBA fan but I paid attention as most common fans. I heard the name Chris Mullin a few times but honestly I didn't know much about him as a kid. Keep in mind when he was on the dream team I was 3 and when he was in the Final Four I was -4. After all that, I'm over 10 years older than kids we recruit. So it's even more separated by time.

2) I can't claim to know for a fact, but by all accounts from insiders the word is that Mullin and Richmond are far from front and center. Rather, they seem to be in the nosebleeds. When Mullin was first hired we all got so excited because he said he'd be knocking down NYC area gym doors implying he'd be a ferocious recruiter. Then with Richmond, we figured they'd be showing up at recruits' doors parading their NBA HOF and All Star credentials. Again exciting. But by all accounts quite the opposite is happening. Mitch just seems to be taking up space almost as if someone's father owned a business and simply created a BS position just to give his son a job. I could be totally wrong but that's the perception and it seems to be a popular one. Where there's smoke, there's usually fire.
