will the best bullpen win?

Your joking right? Good pitching always trumps good hitting in the playoffs. Bullpen won't matter because the Houston starters go so deep. The Astros will be going to the world series again if they continue this pitching. Look at their run differential.

Really? Tell that to the Braves teams that had three hall of Famers on it (Maddox, Smoltz and Glavine) and yet managed to win one World Series. Or the 2014 Tiger Team that had Velander, Scherzer and Price (and a more than decent Porcello) and got swept by the Orioles in the ALDS. To bring one closer to home, the 2015 Mets with Harvey, Syndergard and deGrom were stronger than the Royals starters but still loss in five.

Could the Yanks use more starting pitching, yes. Does the team with the best starters on paper always win in a playoff series, no.

I didn't think I had to mention Houston has one of the best offensive lineups in baseball. Thought that was a given.

Yanks score a lot of runs also and your post was related Houston’s starting pitching (“Good pitching always trumps good pitching in the playoffs.”).

All of the teams you mentioned didn't have tremendous lineups 1-9. Obviously you need to score runs to win. I Don't think the Yankees will be a tremendous offensive force in the playoffs because of the reliance of the HR. They scored 3 runs in 4 games last year at Minute Maid in the LCS. The Tremendous pitching in the playoffs is what fueled the run. I'm worried about the mediocre pitching and just how much they rely on power this season. That won't equate to winning October baseball. Just my 2 cents.

Monty will be back, and German back to the pen, that's improvement right there.
Just get me to the playoffs, we seen how Tanaka and CC pitched once we got in the playoffs.
Gotta believe we add a SP, and we got the farm system do pull a trade and get a decent pitcher, Cashman won't give to much. The 3 I like is:

AJ Happ, Hellickson, and Tyson Ross
On a bad SD team
5-3 3.31 ERA, K/9 9.04 less hits then IP but 26walks

With Yanks/Boston and Houston/Seattle in the WC spots TB and Toronto season is over.

Agree regarding reliance on home runs. Need to be able to manufacture run also. Playoffs can be a crap shoot. Depends on who gets hot and sometimes who turns ice cold. Good pitching can go south, while mediocre pitching can step up. Happens. While I like our chances, it is still a long season and we do need more starting pitching. I would not be surprised if Cashman tries to bring in a high level arm (if he can fine one) and a secondary one. I am also worried about Stanton who seems not to be able to recognize off speed pitches from righties right now and Sanchez (who i would have thought would be at least hitting .250 not around .205 by now).

Scary that tonight's offense is what we'll see from the Yankees in any playoffs. Too many holes in the lineup and they couldn't do anything against the Rays pitching. Suspect the Yanks will really struggle against the Mets starters this weekend.

Stanton with 3 home runs in the last 5 games. First time this year that I'm starting to believe that he is about to go on something like 3 week power surge.

Loved the kid with the “All rise”sign and his Dad. They’re all over Facebook now. Great memories made by that Dad.
