For some reason, NYC area kids exclusively seem to want to go away from home. Most of the good ones at least. This rule doesn't seem to apply elsewhere for whatever reason. We need a national recruiting presence, can't only count on local talent. Nice to imagine but unrealistic IMO.

Sobering to review this laundry list of guys that got away from most local schools. The reasons are numerous, led by the simple fact that the N.Y. Metro is dominated by pro teams in the major sports—subordinating area college teams to second class status.
That said, if schools win they get PR, media coverage and fan allegiance, and grow their fan base.
St. John’s has a great tradition, with a Head Coach who is a legendary Johnny and an NBA HOFer as well as a dedicated Staff.
The time to restore our glory days is at hand.

Yes, money drives the bus in these sleazy, dark days of college hoops.
I was trying to make a larger point: that N.Y. Area Colleges are further up against it—because of the large, diverse, market it is and one further dominated by Pro Sports.
I do think—in addition to $$$$’s—that the N.Y. Metro’s ‘market’ undermines the ‘brand’ of N.Y. Colleges, unless they are winning programs.

Zach didn't include Angel Delgado...he's gonna' catch some local guff for that. Although he can't with a straight face include four from SHU

I'm sure they went by the Book.

At St. John's nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Yet there they are in the NCAA Tournament. By the time they litigate everything Rawle and others (coach) will either be in the NBA or coaching elsewhere. No real punishment will be levied. All will be forgotten. It is a joke.

It has been that way for a long time even in the 80's when we were rocking and rolling. Sure we got Mullin, Jackson, Berry, Sealy, Werdann and others but there were also others that preferred to go away. Some though did come back as transfers.

There are a lot of reasons for it including greenery (open space), cash (another type of greenery), warmer weather, looking for different experiences, etc.
