St. John's 1 win away from serious NIT consideration.

11:50 PM - Mar 7, 2018

He knows about the Molloy game, right? Because I'm sure the committee does.

if it's true that a win doesn't count against Molloy, then why would we ever schedule them? We would literally be in a no-win situation. You either lose and get embarrassed or you win and oops, doesn't count.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they figured with Wilson and Lovett here, we'd be at 23 or so wins and sweating out a D-II game wouldn't be an issue.

I suppose if any sub-.500 team is ever going to make the NIT, it should be St. John's, given its historical role in the tournament. I still have serious doubts despite the Duke and Villanova wins, but looking forward to a heaping plate of crow if we make it.

It was discussed here why we scheduled Molloy. We had that early season tournament with 3 games in 3 days, and then we had a long layoff until the next game. We essentially just scheduled that game to keep us fresh, I believe that's all we were able to get. It was probably added late.

Call me crazy, but I still think we have an outside shot at the NIT. It will all depend on whether the committee wants to break trend and allow a team with a sub .500 record in, and manage to overlook our horrible in conference record. What we do have going for us is our RPI should be high enough, our SOS is among the best, we have the best combination of wins in the nation with Duke and Nova, and we finished the season strong.

If you look at the NIT Bracketology, we actually have a better resume from that standpoint than the lower seeded teams. So, it will all come down to if the committee is willing to buck the trend.

In my heart, I know it's not going to happen, but what do you have if you don't have hope.

I heard a team we were suppose to play backed out last minute and we had to scramble as everyone was booked.

Are we not fortunate to have a coach in Chris Mullin who makes no excuses - as when he said that's what a ninth place team gets as far as an unfavorable seeding in the BE Tournament - and I doubt CM will make any excuses if we do not get an NIT invite -
Would be nice to play some more but WILL be nice just to see our success of 2018-19:)[/i]

If we did have a shot, it's not looking too good. Too many of the one bid conference regular season champs lost their tournaments, and get auto bid to NIT.

I just have this sneaking suspicion we are in. The mid majors with weak schedules would get whipped in our league and could not even be on the same court as nova and duke no less beat them.

Syracuse / St. John's would be nice considering they ducked us this year!

I'd rather not play them and keep our three-game winning streak alive ... especially with our undermanned team. Let it keep eating at them.

You gotta know that if we match up with them prior to the semis it'll be in the dome.

I hope we get in, but doubt it with our 15-17 Div I record, despite we shocked Duke & Nova and play in the best conference in college hoops.
Then I hope fans show up if we get a ‘home’ game.
Then I hope we make a deep run in it.
Overall, doubt we get the bid.
Hope I’m wrong.
Be neat to root our guys on again!
