With the major release of the redmen.com Twentieth Anniversary Edition, most of the old Help Forum answers probably aren't helpful anymore.

Hi Paul,

I always want to lead with my appreciation for the site and your work. I realize you are diligently absorbing all the feedback and making adjustments as best you can. Must be super time consuming!

Here is some additional feedback.......

1. In my opinion, what made Redmen.com awesome was it's overall simplicity and the "new" button. About two years ago Yahoo! Finance made significant changes. It was previously one of the most visited finance sites and perhaps one of the most successful divisions of Yahoo!. However, in their attempts to improve, they made customers extraordinarily unhappy. Many left. I bring it up, because the original Yahoo! Finance had some parallels with Redmen.com. It offered a thorough simplicity with a very intuitive interface. Sadly, in the name of improvement, it lost these qualities as well as the competitive advantage they enjoyed.

2. The current pathway to "latest posts" seems to be the biggest sticking point. If the beloved "New" button is not a viable option, perhaps adopting the Johnny Jungle format would be a more palatable alternative. This would offer a "Last Post" button and the ability to click on exact page numbers (prior to opening the thread). Being able to click on page numbers can give the user an opportunity estimate where they left off (or last read). A quick and efficiency route to the posts a reader has not yet seen is the #1 desirable.

3. The notifications, for me, are not so helpful. I am interest in all threads, not just ones I have participated in. Also, the notification drop down does not feel efficient or organized in an intuitive manner.

Thanks, Paul. Again, I post with respect for you and your work. Thank you!

A little frustrated with trying to edit my posts. (As an I editor, I cringe when I see my typos, etc.)

I hit the "Edit" button (and have tried different methods of doing it), but am prevented from my editing my original post.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

redken I cannot reproduce this issue. Can anyone else?

Could you provide some more details such as what happens after you hit the Edit button? Absolutely nothing or an error message? Do you get the point where you can edit your text but then when you hit the update button nothing happens?

What browser are you using?

Hey Paul. I can edit posts. But after a day or two of being able to jump to the last post that stopped for me again. What is I doin' wrong?

austour this is being worked on. It is more complicated than most of the other issues but will get resolved including linking directly to replies on the forum/category lists and then associated with this is the "New" notification/label.

First, thanks for the prompt response. Much appreciated.

Nothing happens when I hit "Edit." I've been using Chrome as my browser for the past five years.

(Wish I didn't have to take time from your obviously busy schedule.)

redken a few possibilities since I tested on Chrome and couldn't reproduce the issue and so far at least no one else has reported it.

1) What version of Chrome? If you haven't updated it in five years that could definitely be a problem. But assuming that you have updated it, I tested Chrome on a Mac but will also test on a Windows computer. And if you're on Windows, what version of Windows?

2) Try clearing your cache. You can clear the cache through the browser settings but you could also hold down your shift key and then click on the reload button while continuing to hold down the shift key.

3) I suspect that some users are having issues with cookies. If you know how to remove cookies from your browser, remove all of the cookies in your browser that say redmen.com. If you don't know how, for the current version of Chrome on a Mac you'd click the "Chrome" menu and then "Clear Browsing Data" and make sure that "Cookies and other site data" is selected. I would quit the browser completely after this and then restart it. This will do so for every site, so if you only want to do it for redmen.com then do this instead:
Click Chrome menu on browser toolbar.
Select Settings.
Click Show advance settings.
Click Content settings in Privacy section.
In Cookies section, select See All cookies and site data
select redmen.com then click Remove All.

After you've done this, I'd quit Chrome completely then restart it. Then you'll need to log back in to redmen.com

If #2 or #3 don't resolve it, then it could be browser specific if you have an old browser or a few other things like some sort of malware on your PC (have installed a toolbar on your browser? These notoriously do bad stuff) or a setting in your browser like maybe blocking javascript.

Thanks, Paul.

I switched to Mozilla Firefox, and the Edit function worked. (Will follow your steps for resolving the Chrome issue when I have the time; I'm tech-challenged, so it'll probably take me a while.)
