I feel that is why he left.... The guaranteed scholarship with the previous staff was no longer on the table with the current staff.

Makes sense. But just makes you wonder why walk-ons were promised scholarship with having shown little(Stewart) to nothing(Henderson).

The promise was likely made at the time of the commitment, and not during the season. Both were decent high school players on very good teams.

I agree that he likely made promise at time of commitment. And I understand saying to a kid "you'll have the opportunity to earn a scholarship if you prove yourself". But he promised him a scholy and didn't let the kid set foot on the court? I wish the kid luck. Clearly he's OK with being a walk-on at a top tier program as opposed to getting a scholly and PT at a lower program.

I wish Jay luck. I thought he might contribute at SJU as an upperclassman. I am a bit surprised he chose UL, as I thought he was itching to get on the court.

He was definitely a solid citizen. All the best, Jay!

Good luck to Jay. Nobody values walkons--especially walkons that can shoot--more than Pitino. He has relied on them in huge spots deep in the tournament and wouldn't have his last national championship if he didn't. Jay will be rewarded if he can bring hard work and effort.

I always thought it was unfair for our fans to go after the walkons just because the last staff didn't deliver some of the bigger pieces to the puzzle like they should have. It became a punchline, but they were a really good class of walkons and walkons are a big part of a winning program.

Good for Jay! For L'Ville in loss on Puerto Rico tour:

@jdemling: Final: Puerto Rico Junior team 94, Louisville 88.

@jdemling: Jay Henderson with 16 points and five rebounds to lead U of L. Deng Adel 14 points and 5 rebounds; Jaylen Johnson 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Was on the B team
