The national bottle museum is a treasure.

You can't beat Aqueduct in the winter.

Queens is not a shit hole. It is the most diverse county in the country.

Do you think the average high school star athlete cares if Queens is diverse though?

The things athletes generally look for we are probably lacking in. Sucks but it's true.

But somehow this trash school and area has 4 four star recruits ( Ponds, Yawke, Clark, lovett, and one five star recruit ( Simon).

I expect Marvin Clark to be a nice little player for us but let's be clear, contrary to what many posters have stated recently, he was not a top 100 recruit and was rated 3 stars by most services including ESPN and Rivals.

Yet Izzo thought enough of him to give him a schollie.

Just stating facts. Another one is that Mullin is no Izzo, since you brought him up.

True....but he did not become the Izzo we know right out of the gate. After his first two seasons Izzo built an NIT team. It's hard to say if would turned this around in year two...or year one of a complete roster turnover.

Again, I was just working in facts, not stating opinions. Fact is Izzo has never had a losing season, even in conference, and never missed the post season. Been to 20 straight dances, 7 final fours, 2 elite 8s and 4 sweet sixteens. One of the current and really all time greats so, yeah, I'm willing to bet he'd of done better, but that wasn't the point. If Chris can be half as good we will be thankful.

Must have misread the it as an opinion. Just pointing out that even the greatest coaches take a few years to get their programs in gear. Even the great Izzo did not get his team to the dance his first two seasons.

Yes OLV!!!

Or my fellow alum Mike K who struggled and was almost let go from Duke
(first three seasons' records: 17-13, 10-17,
11-17)
AND he inherited a roster AND a recruiting pipeline whereas Chris had NEITHER -
No players
No recruiting connections
So
let's get real w giving our coaching staff TIME
And stick the premature posters' criticism where you can't see it, where the sun don't shine e.g. in a closet or...lol
all the best

Got home from work to see 40 new posts in this thread! I was sure at least one new prospect had been named.

Nope......a debate on whether Queens sucks or not.

I think we're really over estimating just how much we need a big bruiser inside. I like our frontcourt of Owens, Clark, Yawke and Ahmed.

Owens foul trouble was due to the backcourts lack of defensive principles and having to attempt blocking players getting to the lane. That will improve. Especially with Simon. Yawke, in no way, shape or form will have a similar season to least year. Clark and Ahmed will fight for boards. These guys aren't very tall but they are built like bulls.

The Big East as a conference lacks a lot of front court strength. The last two teams I remember with any serious frontcourt presence were the 2016 Wildcats with Ochefu and Xavier, boasting Farr and Reynolds down low. Maybe Delgado and Spellman change that this year.

Let's worry about competing in our conference first before we discuss the national picture. I think with this roster in place we can finish in the top half of the league next year. Once we start winning the roster needs will be addressed much easier.

"Maybe Delgado"? Was it not enough when he went for 21 pts and 20 rebs against us this year? Yes.....that was in one game.

Prison is pretty diverse too, but I wouldn't want to spend four years there.

Seriously and no offense intended but have you ever been off Long Island? Queens is awful and Jamaica makes Raleigh look like Paris.

I didn't realize you were up near Albany. I thought you lived somewhere nice.

Golly that's hurtful. For the record, upstate New York is beautiful. You should visit sometime. It has a delineated seasons, majestic mountains, raging rivers, pristine lakes, and interesting wildlife. I'm a half an hour from some of the premier concert venues and art museums in the country. I'm half an hour from the best thoroughbred racing meet in the world. Land is cheap, taxes are low (for NY) and traffic is non existent. And best of all it has fewer New Yorkers than almost anywhere else in New York. I mean sure, it's not paradise: there isn't a 7-11 on every corner and we don't have too many Olive Gardens (fingers crossed) but there is a Cracker Barrel up the road a piece if I feel the need for cheap bad food. It's by no means ideal, but utopia by definition doesn't exist. If it did it wouldn't be utopia.

All of which is immaterial to the point: that for a college student choosing between Jamaica and nearly anywhere else on the basis of location and culture is a no brainer. Because other than proximity to Manhattan there's nothing that Queens offers that's any other college town doesn't offer as well. Which is why SJU might be an attractive destination not for domestic players but for foreign ones - because when they think of the US they think of NY. But it's also why NY players want to get out, because they've seen the sheer awfulness of it.

btw I love Saratoga and Ballston Spa the bottle capital of the world.

I will be up in Saratoga on business next week. Any suggestions for Dinner?
