Give me a grad transfer big man who can play immediately and average a solid 8 to10 points a game and 4-6 rebounds a game and more importantly be able to catch a ball and keep a defense honest.
someone like Christian jones? Lol he averaged 10.5 and 6.5 this season

Please, c jones had his shot he would not have made a significant diff to our team. His path should have been Div 2-3 where he could have stood out

Why should a guy who averaged more than 10 and 6 his senior year for a Division I team played Division II? By that logic, any player, solid or otherwise, who is not a superstar on a mid-major Division I team should play Division II. Curious logic.

6 rebounds doesn't even qualify him for top 250 in the country even worse if you assume he played 30 mins per game

I'm not suggesting Jones would have been a difference maker for us -- although I would have greatly preferred him in the line up this year over Alibegovic,, Freudenberg, and Yakwe. However, I don't think there is a dispute that he is a serviceable player -- not a star -- on a mid-major D1 team.

I agree that he would not have made a significant difference but as a 5th yr senior at UNLV he is averaging 10 and 7. Not exactly D2 material there. Now standing out? Is that be a star? Then maybe you're right.
There have been nearly 3000 Gods so far but only yours actually exists. The others are silly made up nonsense. But not yours. Yours is real.

Also just as important is for Owens to continue his hard work and upward trajectory. Gotta put 20 pounds on and work on his low post moves and shooting. His shot doesnt look that bad in my opinion. Just gotta keep on working on it and gain some more beef and work on not falling for every ball fake which will cut down on ticky tack fouls.

Amazing that a guy that I didnt think would have much of an impact that I think we need him to have the biggest impact as far as improvment and continue to develop his game more

That would be great but, 20 LBS isn't enough.. Besides, his frame is such that he will always be lanky.. I think by this time in his life, besides playing at Tennessee and, now here , he realizes he isn't going to be able to develop upper body muscle. I believe he wears the undershirt because he does not want to be razzed by opponents for his thin biceps, etc. I like his game but, the Defensive fouls have to be corrected.

The biggest problem with Jones is that he apparently only brings it in the last game of the season. It's as if he suddenly realizes he is auditioning for something bigger. We should have sent him to a hypnotist who could convince him that every game was the last game of the season and that potential transfer sites or European scouts were watching his every move.

He was on my All Time Softee team until his last season with us where he played with a little more heart and got some deserved credit. Apparently he went through the same thing at UNLV where he had to be taken aside to get him motivated. Yeah he played a little better (against mostly inferior competition) but not exactly Senior/Graduate leadership there. DNP for a few of their bigger games like AZSt and OR and mediocre against Duke. Decent against KS. Overall: Mediocre at best.

Bottom line is that the last thing this team needs/ed was another guy who plays when they feel like it and a guy who looks like a tank and plays soft would be the absolute wrong message to send to our younger guys. We may have gotten a few more rebounds and his hands had improved (nowhere to go but up) but I don't think he would have helped us win a single additional game. Flipside is that long term that softee influence is an infectious disease as far as I'm concerned. He and Sima two of the softest players ever at St Johns and we don't need that especially from what we have seen this season. Exact opposite.

Pretty sure he was inured during the ASU and Oregon games. Can't knock a guy for being injured. The Duke game was his first game back from injury I believe and the team got blown out -- not a fair sample.

Overall, I think Jones was solid this year though certainly not spectacular. He would not have been a savior here by any means, but in my opinion he would have been an upgrade to Yakwe and Amar. With Lovett and Ponds creating opportunities, his numbers would likely have been better than last year.

We should only be so lucky as to get a 5th senior that will average 10 and 7 for us.
