As long as UCONN is searching for football money the BE should not let them off the proverbial hook. Let the basketball program pay long term consequences for leaving the Big East. A few months ago Rothstien had a rumor in one of his columns that the ACC might consider letting Wichita State in the league for basketball and other sports save for football. Couple that with the fact that they just went 1-5 in the NCAA's first weekend and one wonders whether the powers that be are worried about the quality of basketball in the league. All year long the shills at ESPN hyped them as the best league in the country and look what happened. Contrary to what the Pope of FAN thinks the league does not have tp react to every bit of internet gossip. Pay your coaches, give the programs in the three biggest markets the opportunity to rebuild and the league will be as solid as ever. It's pretty good now.

My vote is to keep the conference as is. I like the home and away and it differentiates us from other conferences. As a season ticket holder I always disliked not being able to watch every team in the conference. The BE has a good thing going

Agree. Other conference only grew so they could have conference football championship game. Doesn't apply to the BE and they get the best basekball schedule.
There have been nearly 3000 Gods so far but only yours actually exists. The others are silly made up nonsense. But not yours. Yours is real.

The Big East already has prominence without either of them. Has UConn brought prominence to the AAC? Their open attempts to get out has done the exact opposite.

I am not against a expansion as long as their is a good fit and a rationale behind it. Having a FBS school join is not a reasonable fit.

A couple of things. First is that even though it was rumored that UConn was shopping for another conference, they technically didn't leave the Big East. We broke away from them.

Also, say we take on UConn and then they leave in 7-10 years. Big deal, that wouldn't damage the Big East one bit. If anything it would potentially bring big benefits in those years we have them.

Even though I've been adamant about having them in, I still don't think it's the best fit. They have great history, but they're a large state school and don't quite fit in with the rest. Dayton, VCU or Wichita State would be great.

I don't like UCONN, i dislike their fans, and I've had strong negative feelings towards the schools that avandoned the BE, especially those with a northeastern location. The ability to concentrate the league within 400 miles of NYC was an amazing era for local competition and made for intense rivalries among mostly smaller private schools.

Having said that a long time ago, involved in a business dispute that went to court, a wise attorney advised, "Always do what's best for yourself, not what's worst for someone else."

Would UCONN strengthen the Big East? If so, the answer is clear, and if admitted, the business part of the deal should include a harsh financial penalty fir withdrawing that would offset any initial financial gain. Bottom line is UCONN would strengthen the conference. As much I would lije them to die a painful bball death, it would be best for us to have them in our conference

League is great in every way. Highest percentage to get into the NCAAs ever. How much stronger does it need to be? St Johns is on a positive trajectory. Yukon is on a downward death spiral. Grass is not always greener. Very short sighted. Big East will continue to thrive and does not need Yukon in any way.

Disagree but respectfully. Uconn bball has been one of the very best programs over the oast 25 years, and in the big east would be in the top half. Their presence wpuld improve league profile and they are in the intended league geography

They don't fit the league profile and are a proven commodity as a scumbag partner that the power conferences have been smart enough to stay away from. Aside from that you are old enough to remember a lot of great programs that were great then not so much. Someone recently said on here that Illinois had no basketball tradition. 25 years ago nobody would have said that. Indiana was arguably the greatest program post UCLA and they are middling now for years. Things change. Yukon is full of crap on every level and I want them to fail but if I thought they were good for St John's, I'd say bring them. They are not. They screwed us in particular at every opportunity. If I were ruling the roost at Villanova, I'd want no part of reviving Yukon. If I were budding midwest partners like Creighton or Butler, I'd not want to see the emphasis you are espousing either.

Big East is doing great and exceeding all expectations and predictions based upon its own unique identity. Pining away for football schools etc is a proven recipe for failure and we are living in the beginnings of a great formula that a few private schools can have success with playing in the big pond. We should be enjoying and strengthening that, not trying to be something else. It should not be messed with trying to emulate the football conferences which as far as St Johns is concerned, will never be part of a successful equation.

"reviving Yukon"? They won the national championship 3 years ago. St. John's has never won a championship and hasn't even won an NCAA Tournament game in 17 years.

I'd say UConn & VCU would be more likely. But again, it completely depends on what the Big East is looking for. Schools like that would definitely up the level of competition and national profile, but I do get the hesitancy with going down that road again. Schools like Dayton, St. Louis, Richmond, & St. Joe's pose less of a threat.

Does UCONN actually make money on their football program? If so, is it a lot?
