Wright would be crazy to take the Knick job IMHO.

It's not happening. Just a reasonable thing for reporters to speculate after 2 national championships in three years. In today's market the Knicks would have to open Fort Knox to get Wright to leave, and even then might not do the trick.

Our 3rd assistant gets more grief than any 3rd assistant anywhere. More than Norm Roberts got. Mostly misplaced if you ask me. Other than Louie, I can't name all the assistants on any other staff we have had. Including Lavin.

Perhaps dementia is setting in because I can name every assistant going back to Lapchick, including special advisors like Willis Reed and Al LoBalbo. :)

I knew Louie's because was a kid and would study the game program and old BE Yearbook. I miss the BE yearbook!
Never really cared who other coach's assistants were. But I can honestly say since I have been on these boards, Mullin's assistants have been brought up more than any other.
Can't name one of Mahoney's assistant's. Rutledge I guess? I assume LoBalbo was gone at that point.

I've always thought Carnesecca's nickname was spelled Looie

At this point he can't leave for another college job, but if you throw in a pro stop between Villanova and Duke or St. John's, then he leaves the Wildcats as a hero, and not as a traitor.

Most likely won't happen but would be a good thing for Knicks and ST John's. Though terrible for BE.

Going to the Knicks as your first pro job would quickly kill his pro career.

LoBalbo was actually the third assistant.

That could be an early warning sign, 72.

He wrote it, I didn't :)

Actually I remember coach Lobalbo with great fondness. A true "teacher" of the game who, imo, knew more about coaching than Carnesecca. While at St. John's he was only a part-time coach whose duties were to work with the team on defense. I would say his role was similar to Willis Reed and Mitch Richmond today. He wasn't an assistant in the traditional sense and today, would have been classified more as an advisor.

Yes as he was usually only around during the season and he did not recruit, so you can say he was part time and I don't disagree. However, he did not hold the "Part-Time" Assistant position which was an actual title at one time while he was here.

He sure did know a lot of basketball and Bobby Knight always speaks very highly of him and says LoBalbo taught him a lot about defense.

If I was Jay Wright I would take the job. Not for the basketball side of it but for the life style. Assuming Jay's children are out of the house Jay and wife could spend 5 mos in Philly and for 7 mod could live the good life in a plush NYC condo enjoying top restaurants, Broadway shows and access to all the entertainment at MSG every night and Philly is a 90 minute limo ride away. Take 10 million a year for five years and if things don't work out after 3 yrs take Dolan's money and go back to college.
As far as the Knicks go at least they have a young budding star and if they can draft another and if Jay can attract some talent perhaps they could show some progress.
I know Jay and his wife are from Philly and it might be tough to leave but I just finished telling the facts to my wife and we are twenty years older than the Wrights and she would be packing tonight.
