Zagoria

“For us it has been about the relationship, which is mutual,” AD Gaffney, Jalen’s father, told ZAGSBLOG Sunday evening. “They have been following and watching Jalen since the ninth grade. They have seen his growth and we have seen theirs. Chris is a very humble, likable and relatable coach.”

It is a very good thing that Jalen's father does not read this site. :)

I particularly like your final sentence K!
How sweet if JG joins the Red Storm.
And important that a goodly group of we posters are positive and supportive of recruits - potential and otherwise.
After all they are kids, teens, very young adults - why not nurture them. Why not treat them as we would want our kids treated etc. Perhaps the most cynical and negative of our group are young sans kids of their own so they "don't get it".
I guess that is not for me to say.
Thanks JG and Dad - you will never regret playing for SJU, in NYC for the grand player (and growing as a coach) Basketball legend - Chris Mullin.

Courstesy of Fordham on JJ
stjohns.rivals.com/news/inside-red-storm...rget-s-in-home-visit

“I’m obviously familiar with St. John’s,” the older Gaffney, who was raised in Queens and has followed the hometown program since its heydays under Lou Carnesecca, said. “We’ve been a part of their new (coaching) regime since the beginning. They’ve been kind of following our (Team Rio) players, and so on, for the last couple of years. We had a pretty good home visit.”

“For one, it was good to have my wife sit down and hear Mully speak and me myself,” Gaffney said. “We went up there enough, we’re familiar with them. It’s funny, Jalen and Mully have a pretty good relationship — kind of a fun relationship, which is unique with Mully and all his players, which is why they attract to him. But just to get my wife kind of involved — obviously with your son you always have to have your mother’s touch on it, so that was probably the main thing.”

“I’d like to get it done earlier so he can enjoy his senior year but we’ll what happens.”

A way to go, but can’t ask much more re staff positioning Johnnies to get the level of player in our wheelhouse. One with a lot of upside & a PG to boot. An early commitment would set a nice tone for 19.

Stating the obvious, but a 2019 class that starts with Gaffney and Cockburn would be absolutely enormous. Fingers crossed!

It’d be monumental to get an A+ kid like JG. Another player—like DC—who I think would thrive under Mullin.
